Twitter is enormously popular these days, and you can very easily integrate into your WordPress blog.

In this tutorial I will focus on – in my opinion – the best plugin for integrating Twittering from WordPress. This plugin is called WP to Twitter and was created by Joseph Dolson.

What this plugin does is automatically post notices on your twitter account when you have made a new blogpost or page, and anyone following you on Twitter will be instantly notified.
Here is an example: I use it on this blog, cleverwp.com, and whenever I publish a new post, all my Twitter followers are notified.

The update notification checkboxes

This plugin has a few options that I personally liked to tweak, since some of the default settings were a bit annoying.

For instance, the plugin automatically posts notices every time I updated a blogpost/page, but it is simply a matter of clicking a checkbox to off in the settings panel, and it stops updating Twitter every time I update a blogpost.

The plugin also sends a notice whenever you add a new Blogroll link to your blog, which I usually leave on, since I rarely add blogroll links to my sites. Only if you have asked nicely or done something to warrant a sitewide targeted link will you get a link from me.

The plugin also has the option to listen for when you do remote publishing via XMLRPC or e-mails, which is very handy for those of you who use a remote publishing tool.

WP to Twitter also has the option to provide different user accounts per Author. So if you are several people that create and publish content, you can let them create individual profiles. This is an extremely nice feature, however I usually do not use this option for two reasons:

  1. I have very few blogs where there are several authors
  2. I believe a single branded Twitter account is better.

[note]For that reason I use @myWordPress as my single branded Twitter account. Have you remembered to follow it yet? You should, there are small updates, information and news that does not get published on the blog, and you have a way of having instant communication with the people behind myWordPress, so sign up now and discover the power of Twitter.[/note]

I hope you enjoyed my post. Leave a comment if you use this plugin on your WordPress blog or if you know of a better plugin.
